The Estimating Manager is responsible for overseeing the team of estimators at CESSCO. The ideal candidate will play the role of a working manager as the team grows.
Duties
Preparing detailed quotations for assigned inquiries/projects, in accordance with inquiry documents by:
- compiling itemized estimate sheets from inquiry data sheets and specifications
- sourcing material and services costs and deliveries
- estimating labor requirements and determining approximate delivery schedules
- preparing detailed quotations; and
- following the Standard Estimating Process that relies on the involvement of the Engineering, Q.C. and Production Departments about contract requirements.
Maintaining positive customer liaison to refine estimate details and respond to customer enquiries.
Acting as a resource to explain customer requirements, as identified during the estimating and clarification process, to the pertinent departments.
Providing input to Business Development, President for assessment of potential sales. Attending and participating in bid clarification and pre-award meetings, on request.
Reviewing customer purchase orders to verify compliance with the quotation (estimate) and pre-award correspondence.
Preparing Sales Orders, Job Summary Sheets, and other additional necessary paperwork following job awards.
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years leadership and managing a team of estimators in performing take-offs, preparing cost estimates and bid proposals in accordance with customer specifications and company standards.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in estimating for general contracting industrial projects, focusing on pressure vessel fabrication and related industries.
Broad understanding of engineering disciplines.
Have an Intermediate proficiency in software tools like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Primavera.
Ability to interpret detailed information from engineering firms, subcontractors, and vendors for multi-disciplinary scopes.
Knowledge of ASME Codes for Boiler, Pressure Vessel, & Piping work.
Familiarity with Quality and Safety compliance costs.
Excellent time management and communication skills.
Strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Extras
Education
College (NAIT) or University Degree in Engineering Design & Drafting Technology or Mechanical Engineering an asset.
P.M.P., Technology or C.E.T. designation
Skills Required and/or Developed
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as data sheets, standards and specifications, purchase orders, terms and conditions and other contractual documents.
- Ability to learn and use the estimating excel based program to build the estimate.
- Ability to speak effectively to clients and production team.
- Ability to calculate and apply financial math such as margins, percentages, and discounts.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to manage issues requiring problem resolution or conflict management.
- Ability to interpret and understand a variety of instructions in written oral, technical drawing or schedule form.
- Ability to provide clear and professional written correspondence.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills needed, especially in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Highly organized and detailed oriented.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Projects or other project management applications is an asset.
*Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
Ability to commute/relocate reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
